Attack on MNREGA is not tolerated: Rajiv Rana
Rajiv Rana, state chairman of the Unorganized Workers and Employees Congress (KKC), Himachal Pradesh, launched a scathing attack on the central BJP government, saying that the attempt to remove Gandhiji’s name from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) is not merely an administrative decision, but a direct attack on the poor, laborers, and the backbone of villages. This move is a conspiracy to erase the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas, his struggles, and the respect of the country’s working class.
Rajiv Rana said that MNREGA is a lifeline for millions of rural families, providing a strong safeguard against unemployment, migration, and starvation. However, the BJP government has consistently weakened this scheme by cutting the budget, delaying wage payments, and reducing employment opportunities. Now, by removing Gandhiji’s name, the government is making clear its intention to eliminate every symbol associated with the poor and workers.
He said that the protest held today at Gandhi Chowk has sent a clear message that there will be no compromise on workers’ rights. Removing Gandhiji’s name is not just a change of words, but an attack on the very soul of the nation, which the Congress Party will not accept under any circumstances.
Rajiv Rana strongly demanded from the Central Government that the original form and full name of MNREGA should be restored immediately, he warned that if the government does not change its anti-people policies, then KCC and Congress Party will intensify the movement across the state.
He said that the Congress Party has been and will continue to fight on every front to protect Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology, social justice, and the dignity of labor. Any attempt to suppress the national voice will be met with a strong response.
