CIC was given its own independent office premises by the BJP government after 2014: Kashyap

Former BJP state president and MP Suresh Kashyap said, “Almost 100 per cent of Right to Information (RTI) appeals are being disposed of, and the number of pending cases is decreasing every year.”

He said that the pendency of RTI appeals has reduced significantly from 35718 appeals in 2019-20 to 29213 appeals in 2021-22, further reducing to 23087 appeals in 2023-24 and 22666 appeals in 2024-25. Assuring the Commission of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and his support for citizen-centric governance, Suresh Kashyap said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to bring transparency, accountability and good governance in the functioning of the government.

He said that the CIC received its own independent office premises in 2014, when a new government came to power. Prior to that, the CIC operated from a rented building. Of the other appeals received by the CIC, approximately 17,000 are processed annually. He said that a government that cannot provide an office for such a large department is once again misleading the public by offering advice on RTI.

The Information Commission organized a training program for Nodal Officers, Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) and First Appellate Officers. The program received a strong response and was attended by a large number of people, with high participation and capacity building by Information Officers on drafting responses and providing information in accordance with the Rules and Regulations.

Suresh Kashyap said that during the 7 years of UPA rule from 2007 to 2014, the compliance rate was around 77%, whereas in the last 7 years of the present government, this rate has been around 94%. He said that during the 7 years of UPA rule, the disposal rate was 81.79% (1,32,406), whereas in the 7 years of the present government, this rate is 92% (1,60,643). He said that if RTI was made online, it was also done by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
