Countless devotees gathered at the Dharech temple for the Dussehra fair
On the fourth day of the Dussehra fair being held at the Jaieshwari Mata Temple in Keliaghat, Dharech Panchayat, Kasupanti constituency, approximately 20,000 people visited the temple. The entire Dharech valley echoed with chants of Mata’s praise. It’s worth noting that Dharech is home to the ancient Mata Nagarkoti temple, and every year on the eighth day of the Sharad Navratri, the goddess is seated at the Keliaghat temple to grant darshan to devotees. The Dussehra fair is held at this temple for eight days, from Ashtami to Purnima, with a major fair held on Ekadashi. The main attraction of this fair is the darshan of the goddess. There are no other activities. People from far-flung areas like Ratansh, Fagu, Keonthal, and Dharech come to the temple to offer prayers, especially the tonsure of their young children. On 7th October, Mata will return to Dharech.
According to Harichand Sharma of the Mata’s Bazir family, Jaieshwari Nagarkoti Mata is a very visible goddess who definitely fills the empty lap of childless couples. He told that on Ekadashi, hundreds of couples get their children’s mundan ceremony done. In this fair, langar is organized daily by the workers of various villages, in which langar is organized by Bagol, Dharthi, Sonthal, Rihad, Batnali and Khagnaal. About ten quintals of rice is consumed in the langar organized on the occasion of Ekadashi.
Harichand Sharma said that in the past, there used to be a practice of sacrifice in this temple, which was stopped by the Mata’s minister Moti Ram Sharma even before the orders of the Supreme Court. He said that rice grains are given as Prasad in this temple, which people keep safely in their homes. This temple is also emerging as a religious tourist destination day by day. Tourists coming to Kufri and Fagu do not forget to visit Dharech temple, where apart from the darshan of Mata, one can also get a wonderful view of the snow-covered mountain ranges of the Himalayas.
