Wild Elephants Wander into Paonta Sahib, Forest Department Urges Vigilance and Calm
Residents of Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh woke up to an unusual and concerning development today—two wild elephants from a neighboring state have entered the region, sparking a high alert across forested zones.
The animals were spotted in the Satiwala Beat of Bahral Block under the Majra Forest Range, prompting swift action from the Forest Department. Officials have urged locals to avoid venturing into forest areas and to remain extremely cautious. “If entering the jungle is absolutely necessary, please don’t go alone,” they advised.
To ensure safety, the department has activated a series of protective measures. Alarm systems have been installed, communication lines with vulnerable villages are being maintained, and elephant trenches have been constructed along border areas—all under 24/7 monitoring.
Divisional Forest Officer Ved Sharma confirmed that the elephants’ movements are being closely tracked. He appealed to the public to steer clear of known elephant paths and to report any unusual sightings immediately.
Officials emphasized that while the presence of these majestic creatures is rare, human-elephant encounters can be dangerous. They called for community cooperation to safeguard both residents and the animals, reminding everyone that peaceful coexistence begins with awareness and caution.
