Stop Diarrhea Campaign Concludes in Himachal: Over 16,000 Water Sources Tested

The state-wide ‘Stop Diarrhea Campaign’, which ran from June 20 to July 31, successfully inspected drinking water quality at 16,613 sites across Anganwadi centers, schools, health facilities, and community spaces. The initiative also trained 255 local institutions and government workers in water management and hygiene promotion while conducting awareness drives at 76 locations on the importance of clean water.

Key Achievements

  • Leak Repairs Identified: The Jal Shakti Department mapped rural areas with pipeline leaks or needing replacements.
  • Ongoing Fixes: Chief Engineer Hemant Tanwar confirmed repairs are underway to ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • Public Advisory: Residents urged to clean water tanks, avoid untreated natural sources, and stay vigilant during monsoons.

Officials Reassure, But Caution Remains

While the department emphasized strict chlorination of supplied water, Tanwar advised extra precautions: “Even treated water can get contaminated—boil it if unsure.”

The campaign highlights Himachal’s push to curb waterborne diseases, but community cooperation remains critical. “Safe water isn’t just government duty—it’s everyone’s responsibility,” he added.
