CSIR-IHBT Hosts Roadshow for E-Tractor and E-Tiller
The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur, recently organized a roadshow and demonstration event for the innovative E-Tractor and E-Tiller, developed by the CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur. This initiative aims to promote sustainable agricultural mechanization and raise awareness about the latest advancements in the field.
Dr. Naveen Kumar, Vice Chancellor of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, graced the event as the Chief Guest. He lauded CSIR’s efforts in advancing farm mechanization while emphasizing environmental conservation. Dr. Kumar highlighted the importance of innovations tailored to small land holdings, given Himachal Pradesh’s agricultural landscape.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh Dhiman, Deputy Director of Agriculture, served as the Guest of Honour. In his address, he underscored the technological and engineering contributions of CSIR labs towards doubling farmers’ incomes. He stressed the necessity of such innovations and mentioned the government subsidies available for these technologies.
Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director of CSIR-CMERI, detailed the institute’s ongoing projects and the key features of the newly developed technologies aimed at societal development. He noted that the E-Tractor and E-Tiller are user-friendly and can be easily operated by women. Dr. Murmu expressed gratitude to CSIR-IHBT for their support in organizing the event.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-IHBT, welcomed the guests and praised CSIR-CMERI for their eco-friendly mechanization solutions. He highlighted the institute’s contributions to farmers’ welfare, particularly through aroma and floriculture missions that are transforming rural livelihoods.
The event saw the participation of over 150 farmers, who not only witnessed live demonstrations of the E-Tractor and E-Tiller but also had the opportunity to operate the machines themselves, gaining first-hand experience with the new technology.
