BJP Demands White Paper on Central Funds, Questions Progress of Key Himachal Projects

The political tussle over Himachal Pradesh’s finances intensified on Tuesday as BJP leader Randhir Sharma challenged the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government to come clean on the utilisation of Central funds and the status of major development projects across the state.

In a statement, Sharma urged the government to release a detailed white paper outlining the amount of financial assistance received from the Centre, how much of it has been spent, the projects completed so far and the reasons behind delays in pending works. He alleged that the state government often shifts the blame to the Centre whenever questions are raised about financial management and development progress.

Stressing the need for transparency, Sharma said the people of Himachal Pradesh have a right to know how public money is being used. He maintained that political statements should be backed by facts, records and measurable outcomes.

The BJP leader also sought clarity on the functioning of Critical Care Blocks, public health laboratories and Block Public Health Units established under various schemes. In addition, he raised concerns over the progress of the Una Bulk Drug Park project, pending liabilities related to railway projects and the utilisation of disaster recovery funds.

Calling for a project-wise disclosure, Sharma said the proposed white paper should provide details on sanctioned funds, amounts released, expenditure incurred, physical progress achieved and expected timelines for completion of major projects.

He further argued that sustained development in Himachal Pradesh depends on prudent financial management, timely administrative decisions and accountability at every level. According to him, Central assistance and infrastructure investments should translate into visible benefits for citizens through the timely execution of projects on the ground.

Reiterating his demand, Sharma said the state government should present a transparent account of Central funding and development works, rather than engaging in what he described as political blame games.
