AIIMS Bilaspur Hosts Successful CME Workshop on Nerve Conduction and Autonomic Function Testing

Under the visionary leadership of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Vir Singh Negi, AIIMS Bilaspur continues to advance its commitment to excellence in patient care, research, and education. Reinforcing this mission, the Departments of Physiology, Pharmacology, and Neurology organized a CME-cum-Workshop on Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Autonomic Function Testing (AFT) on January 29, 2025. The event, conducted under the esteemed aegis of the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India (APPI), received an overwhelming response with over 230 registrations from across India, including both offline and online participants. The workshop was highly appreciated for its in-depth approach to enhancing knowledge and skills in neurophysiology.

Inauguration and Expert Insights

The workshop commenced with an insightful inaugural address by Dr. Rupali Parlewar, Dean (Academics), who emphasized the critical role of NCS and AFT in diagnosing and managing neurological disorders. She highlighted the need for continuous learning and skill enhancement in these advanced diagnostic techniques and lauded the collaborative efforts of the organizing departments in fostering academic and clinical excellence.

The scientific sessions featured renowned experts in the field, each providing valuable insights into neurophysiological diagnostics:

  • Dr. Kamlesh Jha (AIIMS Patna) delivered a foundational lecture on the principles and techniques of NCS, helping participants understand its clinical applications.
  • Dr. K. Ravishankar Naik (JN Medical College, Belgaum) elaborated on advanced methodologies in NCS and their diagnostic significance.
  • Dr. K. K. Deepak (Visiting Professor, IIT Delhi) presented an engaging session on Autonomic Function Testing (AFT), tracing its evolution from AIIMS New Delhi and discussing its physiological foundations and clinical relevance.
  • Dr. Om Lata Bhagat (AIIMS Jodhpur) and Dr. Kiran Prakash (GMCH, Chandigarh) further enriched the discussions by sharing practical applications of AFT in patient care and research.

Hands-On Training: Bridging Theory and Practice

A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on training sessions, where offline participants received direct practical guidance from faculty and external experts, ensuring an in-depth understanding of technical aspects of NCS and AFT procedures. Online participants were provided with recorded demonstrations, followed by an interactive Q&A session, where experts addressed queries and offered additional insights.

With its comprehensive curriculum and expert-led sessions, the workshop proved to be an enriching learning experience, equipping participants with enhanced skills in neurophysiological diagnostics. AIIMS Bilaspur continues to set new benchmarks in medical education and research, ensuring that healthcare professionals remain at the forefront of innovation and excellence.
