Wheat Procurement Starts in Himachal , 319 metric tons purchased in just 11 days

Wheat procurement is in full swing in Himachal Pradesh, with 319 metric tons purchased in just 11 days. The process of registration and issuing tokens for selling crops is steadily increasing. Wheat procurement centers were opened across the state on April 8. However, fewer farmers are currently reaching the centers as wheat harvesting is still ongoing in many areas. This year, the State Civil Supplies Corporation is purchasing crops from farmers, with 10 centers established for this purpose.

Senior Account Officer Husn Kashyap of the State Supply Corporation shared that 80.30 metric tons of wheat have been purchased at the APMC market in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district. Additionally, 8.90 metric tons in Dhaula Kuan, 4.25 metric tons in Rampur market, Una, 28.40 metric tons in Milwan market, Kangra, and the highest, 197.15 metric tons in Riyali market, Kangra. Farmers have not yet reached other markets with their crops, which is attributed to delays in harvesting. This year, the government has set the minimum support price for wheat at ₹2,425 per quintal. So far, 948 farmers have registered to sell their wheat, with 540 farmers issued tokens for selling their crops. However, only 38 farmers have sold their crops to the government so far.

How Farmers Can Register

Farmers need to visit the HPAPPP portal and fill in their crop details to register for selling. The portal has already been opened for registration. After online registration on the Food Supply Department’s portal, farmers will be given a token number and date for selling their wheat crops. According to the date provided on the portal, farmers can go to the wheat procurement center and sell their crops with the token number.

Last Year’s Procurement

Last year, the corporation started wheat procurement on April 4, which continued for exactly two months. Last year, 645 farmers in the state sold 2,880.25 metric tons of crops to the government. In the year 2024-25, 12.25 metric tons more crops were purchased compared to 2023-24. In 2023-24, the State Civil Supplies Corporation purchased 2,868 metric tons of wheat from farmers. Looking at the figures for 2022-23, FCI purchased 2,931.35 metric tons of wheat during that period, which was 63 metric tons more than the procurement in 2023-24.
