Vibrant Lidbar Fair Kicks Off with Joy and Tradition in Nagrota Kangra
Locals Celebrate as Historic Fair Upgraded to State-Level Event
The air in Nagrota Bagwan was filled with excitement and festivity as the much-awaited Lidbar Fair began on Monday with a lively procession. Led by Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairava, the colorful parade saw enthusiastic participation from fair committee members, local residents, and excited children, marking the start of the four-day cultural extravaganza.
The fair, deeply rooted in the region’s traditions, was inaugurated with prayers at the ancient Mata Narada Sharda Temple. As drumbeats and folk music echoed through the streets, the procession made its way to the fairgrounds, where wrestling matches, cultural performances, and local trade stalls awaited visitors.
A Fair with Greater Recognition
This year, the Lidbar Fair gained special significance after being elevated from a district-level to a state-level event, thanks to the efforts of State Tourism Development Corporation Chairman R.S. Bali.
“This is a proud moment for all of us,” said DC Hemraj Bairava, addressing the crowd. “Fairs like Lidbar are not just about fun—they keep our culture alive, bring communities together, and give local talent a platform to shine.”
Children’s Dangal Steals the Show
The first day’s highlight was the children’s wrestling competition (dangal), where young participants from Kangra and nearby areas showcased their strength and skill. Cheers erupted as Rajat from Kangra was crowned Bal Nagrota Kesari (Young Hero of Nagrota), while Sheru from Amritsar secured the runner-up position.
“The kids’ energy was infectious!” said a local organizer. “It’s heartwarming to see traditions being passed on to the next generation.”
A Gathering of Community and Culture
The fair saw a strong turnout, with SDM Munish Sharma, BDO Latika, local officials, and hundreds of residents joining in the celebrations. Stalls featuring handicrafts, traditional food, and folk performances added to the festive vibe.
As the sun set, the sounds of drums and folk songs filled the air, promising more excitement in the days ahead. For the people of Kangra, the Lidbar Fair is more than an event—it’s a celebration of their heritage, unity, and joy.
“This fair connects us to our roots,” said an elderly attendee with a smile. “And now, with state-level recognition, our traditions will reach even more people.”
With wrestling matches, cultural shows, and community bonding still to come, the Lidbar Fair is set to be a memorable experience for all.
