Under-18 state level rugby selection trials to be held in Shimla on June 28
The Rugby Association of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Rugby Association Shimla will organize the Under-18 State Level Rugby Training Camp and Selection Trials on June 28 at Government Senior Secondary School, Chaura Maidan, Shimla.
Dr. Vikas Sood, President of the Himachal Pradesh Rugby Association, stated that approximately 80 to 100 players from Sirmaur, Shimla, Solan, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Kullu districts will participate in the camp and selection trials. He added that to ensure a completely fair and transparent selection process, the chief selector designated by the Indian Rugby Football Union will travel to Shimla specifically, and the players will be selected under his supervision. The objective is to provide equal opportunities to talented players from various districts of the state and to identify the best players.
Dr. Vikas Sood stated that the selected boys and girls teams will represent Himachal Pradesh in the Under-18 National Rugby Championship to be held in Telangana in the first and second weeks of July. He added that the State Rugby Association’s goal is to expand rugby at the grassroots level in as many districts as possible, so that regular state-level competitions can be held in the future. Similarly, a one-day rugby training and development camp for players from Shimla district was held on June 27th at Auckland School, Shimla, where approximately 40 players participated. The camp’s objective is to connect youth with rugby and promote the sport in the district.
