Tripta Thakur Welcomes Centre’s Move on Kishau Dam, Credits CM Sukhu’s Leadership
State Women Congress Executive President Tripta Thakur expressed her happiness over the Central Government’s decision to bear the full cost of the Kishau Dam Project, calling it a major achievement for Himachal Pradesh. She congratulated Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, praising his leadership, vision, and political maturity in making this long-pending agreement a reality.
Speaking at a press conference held at the state Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, Tripta Thakur said the decision has come as a big relief for the state, pushing it closer to economic self-reliance. She highlighted that the dam, which will be constructed on the Yamuna River along the Himachal Pradesh–Uttarakhand border, is expected to generate an additional ₹600 crore in annual revenue for the state.
She emphasized that Chief Minister Sukhu had been deeply committed to getting this project approved, and his persistent efforts have finally paid off. According to her, the agreement marks a significant milestone in the state’s development journey.
At the same time, Tripta Thakur criticized the BJP for allegedly trying to take undue credit for the project. She pointed out that the previous government led by former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur had failed to finalize the agreement during its tenure. She added that the earlier administration was even prepared to contribute ₹800 crore as the state’s share, but could not bring the matter to a conclusion.
In contrast, she said, the present government under CM Sukhu has resolved the long-standing funding issue, ensuring that the state does not have to bear any financial burden for the project. The Mahila Congress, she said, is grateful for this achievement and sees it as a major step forward for Himachal Pradesh’s growth and prosperity.
