The condition of farmers and labourers at national and state level is worrying: Dr Tanwar

An extended meeting of Himachal Kisan Sabha Kasumpti Area Committee was held. State President of Kisan Sabha Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar attended the meeting as the chief guest. Farmers from Koti, Baldeyan, Dummi, Bhonth zone participated in the meeting and local issues and problems faced by the general public and farmers were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said that the condition of farmers and labourers at the national and state level is worrying. He said that today the farmers of the state are troubled by natural disasters and wild animals. Farmers are facing many problems like reduction in the size of agricultural land, not getting proper price for crops, ending subsidy on agriculture. He said that the central government is bringing 4 labour codes by removing 44 labour laws, which are efforts to end the rights of labourers.
The unit secretary Jaishiv Thakur, while highlighting the conditions of Kasumpti area, said that this area lacks education, health and transport facilities. Due to lack of doctors in health institutions, the public is not able to get health facilities. The secretary said that due to lack of teachers in schools, children have to go to the city for better education. On the other hand, the government is closing down schools.
The farmers who came to the meeting said that the company constructing the four-lane is ruining the farmers’ fields and pastures by illegal dumping but neither the administration nor the government is solving the farmers’ problems. Due to dumping, water sources are getting exhausted and the remaining ones are also getting contaminated with sewerage water.
Unit secretary Jaishiv Thakur said that farmers will stand shoulder to shoulder with labourers in the nationwide general strike on July 9. A convention will be held on developmental issues after August 15 and an organisational conference will be held on October 5
