The ceiling of Science Block Junga collapsed just two years after its construction
The science lab of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Junga, used substandard material, and its ceiling collapsed in just two years. Fortunately, no one was killed. However, it has become risky for science students to sit in this building.
It should be noted that the Public Works Department had hastily got the incomplete science block inaugurated by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on 10 November 2020. After the inauguration, the Public Works Department took about two years to complete the incomplete construction work in this building and in the year 2022 this building was handed over to the Education Department. The school management committee says that the roof of the building had started breaking even in one and a half years, which was repaired by the Public Works Department. Thereafter, the ceiling started breaking in many places. Apart from this, the glass of the windows was also broken. Which has not been repaired to date. The people of the Junga area have raised questions about the functioning of the department.
Recently, during the annual function of the school, Rural Development Minister Aniruddh Singh expressed strong objection to the use of substandard material in this building and ordered the department to take strict action against the contractor. On the other hand, State President of Kisan Sabha Dr. Kuldeep Tanwar said that using substandard material in government development works has become a common practice. Due to the collusion between the department and the contractor, quality cannot be expected in the development works at present. He has requested the government to repair the building as soon as possible so that the children do not have problems studying science subjects.
Assistant Engineer of PWD sub division Devesh Thakur said that a penalty of Rs. 2 lakhs has been imposed on the contractor. A demand has been made to provide funds from the education department for the repair of the science block.
