Suket Devta Fair Wraps Up in Sundarnagar with Grand Devotional Celebrations and Cultural Pride

The vibrant five-day-long State-Level Suket Devta Fair came to a grand conclusion on Sunday in Sundarnagar, bringing together tradition, devotion, and a strong sense of community. Held during the auspicious Navratri period of the Chaitra month, the festival celebrated the divine and cultural spirit of Himachal Pradesh.

The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner Mandi, Apoorva Devgan, who began the day with prayers at the revered Mahamaya Temple. She later joined the impressive Shobha Yatra—a vibrant procession of goddesses—that made its way to the Jawahar Park fairground, where thousands gathered to witness the spiritual spectacle.

In celebration of Navami, a Kanjak Pooja was organized at the Farmers Training Center Community Hall, adding a traditional and emotional touch to the festival’s finale. On this special occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also launched a beautifully curated coffee table book highlighting the essence and history of the Suket Devta Fair—calling it a wonderful initiative to preserve and showcase local heritage. In a gesture of respect, special sheets were presented to all the goddesses who graced the fair.

Addressing the crowd, DC Apoorva Devgan praised the fair as a true reflection of Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural legacy. She emphasized that such festivals are not just celebrations, but threads that weave the fabric of our collective identity. “These fairs are living traditions that must be cherished and passed on to future generations,” she said, highlighting the deeper meaning and importance behind the colorful festivities.

The DC also appreciated the fair’s initiative of promoting a “Drug-Free Sundarnagar”. She stressed that youth are the foundation of the nation, and any drift towards substance abuse could hinder the country’s progress. Encouraging young people to engage in education, sports, and community service, she called upon society to stand together in guiding the younger generation toward a brighter future.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohanlal, HP State Co-operative Bank Director Lalsingh Kaushal, Mela Committee President Amar Negi, DSP Bharat Bhushan, Tehsildar Ankit Sharma, and many others from various departments, along with local deity representatives and cultural groups who brought the fair to life.

As the fair concluded, it left behind a spirit of unity, devotion, and cultural pride—reminding everyone of the values that continue to define and strengthen Himachal’s identity.
