Shimla gears up for a Cultural Feast: Sangeet Mahotsav 2024 to Light up the festive spirit
Shimla is ready to embrace the vibrant spirit of festivity as it hosts the much-anticipated Shimla Sangeet Mahotsav 2024, a three-day cultural celebration from October 22 to 24 at the historic Gaiety Theatre, Gothic Hall. Organized by the Department of Language & Culture, Himachal Pradesh, this event is set to offer a captivating showcase of India’s rich classical music and dance traditions.
As Shimla basks in the festive atmosphere, both residents and tourists will have the chance to dive into an unforgettable musical journey, featuring the soulful strains of the Sarod, the rhythmic beauty of Kathak, and the soothing notes of the Flute. The Mahotsav will also spotlight classical vocal performances and enthralling Qawwali renditions, promising a fresh and unique experience each day.
The festival opens on October 22 with a spellbinding Sarod performance by Arnab Chakrabarty, followed by an electrifying Kathak recital by Manjari Chaturvedi. The day’s events will close with a classical vocal performance by Meeta Pandit.
On October 23, the spotlight shifts to the revered Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas, whose mastery in classical vocals will take center stage. Following him will be Sunanda Sharma, joined by Pt. Rajendra Prasanna on the Flute, offering a harmonious blend of voice and melody.
The grand finale on October 24 will feature a mesmerizing performance by Santoor virtuoso Abhay Sopori. To wrap up the Mahotsav on a high note, the celebrated Qawwali duo, Naseer Ahmed Warsi and Nazeer Ahmed Warsi, will deliver a spiritually uplifting performance, closing the festival with grace and grandeur.
All performances are scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM daily at the Gaiety Theatre. Admission is free, and everyone is invited to witness this cultural extravaganza. A departmental official stated, “This Mahotsav offers a rare opportunity to experience the soul of India’s classical heritage during Shimla’s festive season.”
