Alka Sharma, a daughter of rural background, has brought laurels to the state and the Kasupanti constituency by winning the gold medal in the world-class yoga competition. It is worth noting that Alka Sharma is originally the daughter of Ramsaran Sharma and Poonam Sharma of Kataiya Majhar village of Satlai Gram Panchayat of Junga tehsil. Alka is currently studying in the eighth grade at Acharyakulam (Patanjali Yogpeeth) Vidyalaya, Haridwar. After completing her education till the fifth grade at a private school in Fagu near Chiyog, Alka took admission in the sixth grade at Acharyakulam Vidyalaya, Haridwar in the year 2023.
Alka’s uncle, Rajkumar Sharma (Auditor, Panchayati Raj Department), stated that Alka has brought honor to her parents and the region by winning the gold medal in the supine individual yoga event in the junior category at the recently concluded World Yogasana Competition in Ahmedabad. He added that representatives from 78 countries participated in this world-class yoga competition. He explained that the asanas performed on the back are quite difficult, and Alka practiced them under the guidance of retired army officer Udayveer Singh Yadav, who is currently serving at the Acharyakulam school for free. Alka also secured the top spot at the national-level yoga competition held in Sonipat a few months ago, leading to her selection for the World Yogasana Competition.
Both Alka’s parents are teachers in the education department. Her father, Ramsaran Sharma, said that Alka has been a very bright student since childhood. She has been deeply involved in spirituality since childhood, which is why she was admitted to Acharyakulam Patanjali Yogpeeth. When Alka was contacted over the phone, she said that Acharyakulam also teaches spirituality through yoga, which not only keeps the body healthy but also provides mental peace and relief from stress, thereby gaining knowledge of the true truth of life. She said that she now wants to showcase her talent in yoga asanas in the Olympics, for which she will prepare day and night.
