Renewed western disturbance to bring heavy rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has announced the reactivation of a western disturbance in Himachal Pradesh, raising the likelihood of significant rain and snowfall on March 12 and 13. Alongside, a yellow alert has been issued by the department. According to meteorologists, Monday will remain clear and dry, but come March 12, a fresh western disturbance will bring about precipitation, including snowfall and rain in high-altitude regions, persisting into March 13. Its impact may linger into March 14 before the weather clears up again by March 15.

On Sunday, most areas, including the capital Shimla, experienced dry weather, continuing into the present day with clear skies since morning. This clear spell has led to a rise in maximum temperatures. Across the state, the average temperature has surged by 1.4 degrees above normal, with Una recording a maximum of 26.4 degrees and Shimla at 16 degrees. Shimla’s average temperature has soared by 3.1 degrees from the norm. In terms of minimum temperatures, Kukumassery saw a low of minus 11.4 degrees, while Shimla recorded 6 degrees. Kalpa registered a minimum of minus 3.6 degrees.

The Director of the Indian Meteorological Department, explained that the western disturbance has regained activity since March 12, leading to anticipated rain and snowfall in various parts of the state. Higher elevations are expected to receive snowfall on March 12 and 13, while lower regions may experience rain accompanied by strong winds. Pal highlighted that the prolonged clear weather has led to rising temperatures, but these are expected to drop once again due to the impending precipitation.
