No Withdrawals on Day One as Panchayat Election Process Gathers Pace in Mashobra

The three-tier Panchayat election process in the Mashobra Development Block moved forward smoothly on Wednesday, with no candidate withdrawing their nomination on the first day of the withdrawal period.

According to the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Election Officer, the State Election Commission has set the window for withdrawal of nominations from May 13 to May 15. On the first day itself, all candidates chose to stay in the fray, indicating a keen contest across the panchayats.

Earlier, on May 12, the scrutiny of nomination papers for various posts was carried out, and officials confirmed that all submitted nominations were found to be valid after thorough verification.

The BDO shared that a total of 573 nomination papers have been filed across the 32 panchayats in the block. This includes 155 nominations for the post of Pradhan, 168 for Deputy Pradhan, and 250 for Ward Member positions, reflecting strong participation from candidates at all levels.

Candidates still have time to reconsider, as nominations can be withdrawn until 3 pm on May 15. Following this, election symbols will be allotted, officially setting the stage for the electoral battle.

The Panchayat elections in the area are scheduled to be conducted in three phases—on May 26, May 28, and May 30.

With enthusiastic participation and no withdrawals so far, the elections in Mashobra block are shaping up to be closely contested and highly engaging at the grassroots level.
