Monsoon Set for Strong Comeback in Himachal; Four-Day Heavy Rain Alert Issued
After a brief lull, the southwest monsoon is expected to make a strong return across Himachal Pradesh from 31 August, with the Meteorological Centre in Shimla warning of heavy rainfall in several districts over the coming days.
According to the latest forecast, rainfall activity is likely to gradually intensify after relatively quiet weather conditions. While only isolated light showers are expected initially, a more active spell is forecast between 31 August and 3 September, bringing light to moderate rain to many parts of the state.
The weather department has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall at isolated locations, urging residents and local authorities to remain cautious, particularly in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas.
Districts Under Rain Watch
The first alert comes into effect on 31 August, when heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Kangra and Sirmaur districts.
The weather system is expected to strengthen further on 1 September, with Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur all placed under a Yellow Alert for the possibility of heavy rainfall.
On 2 September, the focus shifts to Hamirpur, Chamba and Kangra, where isolated areas may again experience intense spells of rain.
Weather experts expect the monsoon to remain active through 3 September, although rainfall intensity could vary from one district to another.
First Week of September May Remain Wet
The unsettled weather may not end there. The Meteorological Centre has also predicted rainfall at some places on 4 September, indicating that wet conditions could continue into the opening week of September.
With the monsoon showing signs of renewed strength, authorities are likely to keep a close watch on rivers, streams and landslide-prone stretches, especially in districts that have already received significant rainfall this season.
Residents and travellers are advised to stay updated with weather advisories and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to flash floods, landslides and road blockages as the monsoon enters another active phase in Himachal Pradesh.
