Monsoon Knocks Early: Himachal Braces for a Week of Heavy Rain and Weather Warnings
Himachal Pradesh is set to welcome the monsoon a little earlier this year, with the Meteorological Center in Shimla forecasting a wet and stormy spell starting June 20. The rains are expected to intensify over the next few days, prompting orange and yellow alerts across several districts.
Light showers may begin as early as June 19, but the real downpour is expected to hit from June 20 onwards. Heavy rainfall is likely on June 20, 21, 23, and 24, with the heaviest showers forecast for June 22 and 25 — days that now carry an orange alert. Yellow alerts have been issued for June 21 and 24.
Districts like Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Sirmaur are under close watch due to the heightened risk of flash floods, landslides, and disruptions to essential services. Shimla, Solan, and Mandi are also on alert, though currently under the less severe yellow category.
And it doesn’t stop there — the rain is expected to continue into early July, with light to moderate showers and occasional heavy spells in the lower and mid-hill regions from June 27 to July 3.
As for temperatures, the weather will be a bit of a rollercoaster. Minimum temperatures will stay steady for a couple of days before dipping by 2–4°C. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are expected to rise slightly before dropping sharply as the rains take over.
With the monsoon arriving early and in full force, residents and travelers are advised to stay alert, avoid risky travel routes, and keep an eye on local weather updates.
