Mango productions in Sirmaur likely to be at 3000 metric tonnes 

The varied topography and climatic zones of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh are suitable for the production of temperate to subtropical fruit as farmers are growing, Apple, King of fruit-Mango, Peach and Plums, and 35 other high-quality fruit being exported to other markets in north India. 

The Mango orchards in the district are specially confined to the downstream and low-elevation areas likely Kala -Amb (black Mango) and Poanta-Sahib are likely to have bumper crops this year as the Horticulture department estimates around 3000 metric tones of total crop in the district this year.

Deputy Director Horticulture Satish Sharma informed that  Mango cultivation is increasing in the district as farmers are switching over from traditional to cash crops  Currently this district has about 18,000 hectares of land under the different types of stone fruit trees.  Mango, Peach, Plum, and Litchi including citrus fruit like Lemon, Orange, Malta, Kiwi,  Kinnow, and strawberry.  The production of different now apple types of fruit goes to 27 to 28 thousand metric tonnes of fruits produced in the 18,000-hectare area in the district.

Many new areas in the snow lines like Haripur Dhar, Shilai, and Sangrah are producing new varieties of apples. The  Sirmaur is known for the best quality of peaches production in Asia owing it its Peach Valley of Rajgarh.  Apart from this, the climate and land of Sirmour have been considered suitable for papaya and pomegranate.  Along with kiwi, olive is also being produced on the government farm in Sirmaur.

The onslaught of diversion of agricultural lands to industry and other institutions is a major hurdle in the growth of horticulture and diversification of crops in the district. Due to the coming up of national institutions in the district, the area consider very suitable for the Mango and Kinnow and very fertile was acquired to open the IIM and IRB for complex in the district. 

Horticulture Department is constantly trying to make the farmers rich through horticulture.  The HP e Udyan portal has also become a medium through which applications could n be made for any fruit production while sitting at home.  In which a 50 percent grant is given by the government.

 This plan is considered very important for area expansion.  Apart from this, under the HP Shiva project in the district, many farmers have planted different types of orchards with the view of employment in fruit production.  In which papaya has also been made a major source of employment.

 Orange, guava, pomegranate, ultimate Japanese fruit, mango, papaya, lemon, etc. have also been included in this project.  It may be mentioned that the Sirmaur district is the only district in the entire state which is capable of cultivating about 35 varieties of fruits.  The World Bank-funded Horticulture Development Project, Integrated Horticulture Mission for Integrated Development is also being effectively implemented in the district.
