Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium leprae. Treatment of this disease is possible and the facility for treatment of leprosy is available free of cost in all the government hospitals of the state.
This information was given by Dr. Manoj, medical in-charge of Civil Hospital Junga, while presiding over the regional meeting of Asha workers on Friday. He said that white spots on the body, numbness of the limbs, weakening of the muscles and rashes on the body are the symptoms of leprosy. He advised the Asha workers that if such symptoms are found in any person, they should be immediately asked to go to the hospital for examination.
Dr Manoj also gave information about the symptoms and spread of scrub typhus. He told ASHA workers that during their field visits, they should make people aware about the spread and prevention of this disease and tell people that whenever they go to the forest to collect grass and wood, they should keep their body and hands covered with gloves etc.
On this occasion, Dr. Ishan Kaushal gave detailed information about the symptoms and treatment of TB disease. He told that chest X-rays of all senior citizens above 60 years of age will be taken. He also gave information about blood pressure, sugar. Dr. Ishan told that in the rainy season, there is a possibility of spread of diseases like diarrhea, vomiting, etc. due to contaminated water. During field visits, Asha workers should give information to people about drinking boiled water.
The meeting was attended by Supervisor Sunny, CHO Bhadech Kumari Poonam and CHO W Kumari Rani, besides Asha workers working in various health institutions of Junga.
