Landslide at NH 3, Kinnaur district cut off for the last three days

Almost a month after the withdrawal of South West Monsoon from the state the normal life remained still detailed and paralysed in far-flung areas and a few districts of Himachal Pradesh.

According to District Administration Old Hindustan Tibet National Highway No- 3 remained disrupted for vehicular traffic near Nathpa Dam of 1500 megawatt of SJVNL due to rolling down of boulders and stones on the roads.

The Restoration work is being done with the help of heavy machinery but the district administration of Kinnaur did not announce the restoration of the highway sodar.

According to Deputy Commissioner Ms Tarul S Raveesh NH-5, connecting the Hindustan-Tibet border has been closed for the last three days.

The entire Kinnaur district is cut off from the rest of the country and the world and Public life has been badly affected in Kinnaur district.

Thousands of boxes of apples belonging to gardeners are stuck in trucks parked on the roadside, in Tapri Market, and in the warehouses of growers.

 The  Apples packed in trucks and boxes are in danger of rotting. For three days, supplies of daily consumption food items, milk, curd, bread, butter, vegetables, etc. could not reach the Kinnaur district. Due to a lack of fuel supply, there is now a shortage of petrol and diesel.

She said that the road was disrupted after a huge part of a hill up to a 200-meter stretch caved in on the highway.

She said that restoration work was hampered as big boulders and shooting stones were rolling down from the hilltop and again.  

She said that restoration work was halted on Sunday as after clearing rubbles from 50 meters off both sides a huge rock came down on the road again blocking the further 150 meters of the highway. 

The NH wing of the Public Works Department is engaged in road restoration on a war footing.

The highway has been closed since the massive landslide of Friday night

After the landslide from the hill, all the debris fell on the dam of SJVN’s Nathpa Jhakdi project. The dust is flying around the project site.
