Kangra District on High Alert Amid Continuous Rainfall
The Kangra administration is on high alert due to ongoing heavy rains in the district. Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa has instructed nodal officers from various departments, including Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, and Naib Tehsildars, to stay active in the field to ensure efficient relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Bairwa reviewed the rain damage at the Disaster Management Control Room at the district headquarters on Saturday, issuing necessary guidelines for relief and rehabilitation. He emphasized that no laxity would be tolerated in disaster management efforts, urging officers to remain vigilant in their respective areas.
Blocked roads due to heavy rains have been repaired promptly to restore vehicle movement. Currently, efforts are focused on restoring the Gummar to Kanol Road and Holta Chadiyar Sandhol Road for traffic.
In addition, 166 IPH schemes have been affected, with 28 already restarted and ongoing work on the others. The Electricity Department reported damage to 18 transformers. The Weather Department has issued a heavy rain warning for some areas in the district over the next 24 hours, advising the public to remain alert.
Deputy Commissioner urged citizens and tourists to avoid riverbanks and streams, refrain from unnecessary travel, stay in safe locations, and avoid taking risks amidst the heavy rains.
