Kalka-Shimla Holiday Special Train: A Festive Treat for Tourists
With the festive season in full swing, Himachal Pradesh is bustling with tourists eager to bask in the charm of snow-capped mountains and scenic landscapes. Adding to the delight, the Indian Railways has launched a special holiday train on the iconic Kalka-Shimla route, ensuring a magical travel experience for visitors.
Holiday Train for a Scenic Journey
Starting December 20, 2024, train number 52443 departs from Kalka daily at 8:05 am, reaching Shimla by 1:35 pm. En route, the train stops at popular stations, including Dharampur, Barog, Solan, Kandaghat, and Summer Hill, offering glimpses of the region’s breathtaking beauty.
For the return journey, the train leaves Shimla at 4:50 pm and arrives in Kalka by 9:45 pm. Ticket prices cater to all budgets, ranging from Rs 75 for general class to Rs 945 for the luxurious tourist class, and Rs 790 for first class. This special service will run daily until February 28, 2025, making it a perfect option for both tourists and locals.
A Historic Journey on a UNESCO Heritage Line
The Kalka-Shimla railway line, a marvel of engineering and a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrates 121 years of service this year. Spanning 96 kilometers, it features 103 tunnels, 869 bridges, and 18 charming stations, making it a journey like no other.
Over the decades, this route has become synonymous with joy and nostalgia, thanks to its iconic toy train and Vistadome coaches, which continue to enchant travellers.
Meeting the Festive Rush with Comfort
A senior official at Shimla railway station highlighted that the holiday special train is designed to cater to the increasing number of passengers during the Christmas and New Year season. “The service aims to provide added convenience and a faster, more comfortable journey for travellers,” he said.
As Himachal Pradesh gears up for a festive influx, the Kalka-Shimla holiday train promises to enhance the charm of exploring the snow-laden hills, creating unforgettable memories for all who embark on this picturesque journey.
