Himachal’s Shiva project set to transform Bilaspur’s farming landscape
In a significant push to uplift farmers financially, the HP Shiva Project has launched efforts in Sunhani Panchayat, Jhanduta Development Block, to encourage horticulture. Through this project, the Horticulture Department has allocated 120 acres to plant high-quality fruit trees, including pomegranate, guava, lychee, and orange.
During a meeting, farmers were briefed on the project’s benefits and the economic prospects of horticulture. Dr. Devendra Thakur, Director of the HP Shiva Project, emphasized that the project’s core objective is to improve farmers’ financial well-being. The newly planted fruit trees aim to bolster horticulture across Bilaspur district. Dr. Thakur noted that the department’s outreach to rural areas under this government initiative is meant to inspire farmers to adopt horticulture as a sustainable income source.
Dr. Thakur added that the HP Shiva Project has expanded from 600 to 1200 hectares, enabling the plantation of more high-yield fruit varieties across the district. This initiative not only supports the local horticulture industry but also ensures maximum benefits for farmers. The meeting saw the participation of Horticulture Department officials, including Arvind Gautam, Ramesh Kumar Kaundal, Surendra Kaushal, Rajesh Kaushal, Baliram, Onkar Chaudhary, and Krishan Dayal, along with numerous local farmers.
Plantation Scheduled for March
The farmers were informed that planting would commence in March. Preparatory steps include forming a farmer committee and leveling the land. Horticulture officials pledged ongoing support to farmers to facilitate the project’s successful implementation.
