Himachal sees 30% drop in drugs related cases: CM Sukhu announces new legislation
In a promising development for Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that drug-related cases in the state have decreased by 30% over the past two years. This significant improvement is credited to the state government’s stringent enforcement measures and ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.
Speaking to the media, CM Sukhu revealed that new legislation is set to be introduced in the Vidhan Sabha to bolster the state’s fight against narcotics. “Our government is dedicated to eradicating this issue. The upcoming law will ensure stricter penalties and better mechanisms to tackle drug trafficking and consumption,” he stated.
During a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Sukhu highlighted the state’s initiatives against drug abuse and sought continued support from the central government. He emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between law enforcement agencies to effectively combat drug smuggling.
Beyond the drug issue, CM Sukhu urged Amit Shah to expedite the release of Rs 9,042 crore under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) for 2023-24. He stressed the importance of these funds for the state’s recovery from past disasters and called for immediate financial assistance.
The Chief Minister also addressed internal party matters, confirming that Congress in-charge Rajni Patil is in regular contact with state leaders. He assured that the announcement of office bearers for the state Congress unit would be made soon after consultations with the party high command.
Additionally, Sukhu touched upon the recent technical issues at Shimla Airport, stating that he would be discussing necessary improvements in safety and operations with the Union Minister for Civil Aviation.
