Himachal Proposes Expansion of Shimla Municipal Limits: Public Input Invited
The Himachal Pradesh government has proposed expanding the planning jurisdiction of the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) to include parts of Kasumpti, Beolia, and Mashobra. This move aims to enhance urban planning and development in these regions. The proposed areas to be added are Upmohal Dochi (Kasumpti), Upmohal Jadech and Kawara (Beolia), and Mohal Mashobra, Lambodar, and Upmohal Tila (Mashobra), covering a total of approximately 25-51-33 hectares.
In a notification issued by the Urban Development Department on December 20, 2024, residents and stakeholders are invited to share objections or feedback during the consultation period. This public participation initiative aligns with the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, ensuring transparency in the decision-making process.
The expansion promises better resource distribution, urban development, and infrastructure planning in the newly incorporated zones. To ease the transition for affected residents, the government has announced a three-year exemption from property taxes on land and buildings within the expanded jurisdiction. Existing residents will also retain their customary rights as recorded.
The government urges citizens to voice their concerns or suggestions within the specified timeline to ensure all viewpoints are considered before finalizing the inclusion of these areas under the Shimla Municipal Corporation’s planning jurisdiction.
