Heatwave Grips Himachal Pradesh: Sweltering Conditions and Unprecedented Temperatures

In Himachal Pradesh, scorching heatwave conditions have taken hold, pushing temperatures to unprecedented levels. Neri, a location in the state, recently recorded a blistering 45.3 degrees Celsius. Even Shimla, known for its cooler climate, reached 30.5°C—5°C above the normal temperature.

Other areas in the region faced extreme heat as well. Hamirpur recorded 41.7 degrees, Dhaulakuna in Sirmour and Una experienced 43.2 degrees, Berthin reached 40.7 degrees, and Bilaspur soared to 42.7 degrees. Sundernagar hit 41.7 degrees, while Jubberhatti and Kasauli saw temperatures of 34 and 35 degrees, respectively.

Kangra and Mandi reported high temperatures of 41.6 degrees and 40.8 degrees, respectively. Surprisingly, Keylong, typically known for its cooler climate, recorded the lowest temperature on the map at 20.7 degrees.

The sweltering heatwave has forced residents to seek refuge indoors or in shaded areas, heavily relying on air conditioners and coolers to beat the heat. Unfortunately, the extreme conditions have also sparked forest fires in several pine jungles, exacerbating the situation.

Despite the oppressive heat, tourists continue to flock to the region, putting a strain on the hospitality industry. Hotels and other accommodations are fully booked, and traffic congestion is rampant—especially in Shimla, where vehicular traffic chokes the town during check-in and check-out times.

The soaring temperatures have also led to a surge in the demand for cold drinks. However, this severe heatwave poses a threat to local agriculture, potentially affecting fruit and apple crops as well as off-season vegetables.

These current weather conditions highlight the extreme summer temperatures gripping Himachal Pradesh, with significant deviations from the norm impacting daily life, tourism, and agriculture in the region. Stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during this intense heatwave.
