Haryana Cop Among Two Held in Solan with 157 Grams of Heroin, Was Using Uniform as a Cover

In a shocking case of betrayal of duty, a serving head constable of the Haryana Police has been arrested in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, for allegedly being involved in drug trafficking. The cop, along with another individual, was caught with 157 grams of heroin (chitta) while trying to sell the contraband to local youth.

The arrests took place on Sunday evening near Dohari Diwar along the busy Pinjore–Shimla National Highway, following a tip-off received by the Sadar Police Station. According to Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, the suspects were spotted moving suspiciously from the KFC area toward Dohari Diwar—one of them notably dressed in a police uniform.

The accused have been identified as Pradeep Kumar (40), a head constable with Haryana Police posted at Siwan Police Station in Kaithal, and Mohit (21), also from Kaithal. Police say Pradeep had been absent from duty since April 1 and had allegedly been involved in heroin smuggling for quite some time. In a disturbing twist, he used his official police uniform to avoid suspicion during drug transactions.

Their plan initially took them to Narkanda in Shimla district to sell the heroin, but pricing disagreements caused the deal to fall through. They then moved to Solan, looking for potential buyers. That’s when police intercepted and arrested them, recovering the narcotics during the operation.

Both have been produced in court and sent to five days of police custody. Authorities are now digging into their criminal background, and a case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing.
