Manali Highway to Remain Shut for 2 Hours Daily Till April 30 Amid Road Widening Work
In view of the ongoing four-laning project and the approaching tourist rush, the Mandi Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Apoorv Devgan, has extended the traffic closure orders on the busy Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. The stretch between Nerchowk and Pandoh will remain closed for two hours daily—from 11 am to 12 noon and again from 2 pm to 3 pm—until April 30.
This step has been taken to accelerate the road cutting and widening work being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The temporary closure will help the workers safely conduct blasting and cutting activities, especially near the 4 Mile area, where much of the pending work remains.
The directive to extend the closure was issued following a request by the NHAI Project Director, citing the need to speed up construction in anticipation of a sharp rise in tourist traffic to Manali and Lahaul in the coming weeks.
Alongside the closure extension, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed the NHAI to implement all necessary safety measures to protect travellers during the ongoing work.
