Founder’s day celebrations begin at Sanawar

With the paying of floral tributes to father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, three-day long Founder’s Day celebrations began on the premises of The Lawrence School Sanawar, established in 1847 A.D.  marking the 174th year of its foundation. Even for the parents, old students and visitors, the celebrations are virtual, for the students and staff of the school it is nothing less than real as over 300 students are present in the campus and are involved in various activities. As the Indian Tricolor unfurled waving majestically high in the sky, the celebrations on the hilltop kicked in with the Headmaster, Himmat Singh Dhillon, paying glorious tribute to the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi said,  “Students should lead a life that values character and Integrity.” He reminded the students about the belief firmly held by Gandhi ji “Be the change you wish to see. Only changing oneself can lead to sustainable change in the world, he said.  Remembering the struggle of our freedom fighters on this occasion, the school also paid rich tribute to one of its alumni, Arun khetarpal who was awarded param Vir Chakra for his supreme sacrifice in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. While the head boy of the school Nihal Singh Sidhu spoke about many aspects of the virtuous life of Mahatma Gandhi in his speech, the head girl Pavya Singh. Pavya called upon everyone to shun all kinds of destructive weapons and fortify oneself with the power of Truth and Non-violence. The headmaster also announced the winners of the Gandhi Essay Writing Competition. While Manic Singh Ahluwalia of class XII won the first prize, the second and the third prize went to Krishna Roy and Mrigna Goel of Class XI.A special Chapel Service in the iconic chapel building, built in 1851, was organized by the school to felicitate, albeit in virtual mode, those old students of the school, also called Old Sanawarians, who graduated 25 years ago, 50 years ago and Sixty years ago. The Old Sanawarians from the batches of 1956, 1960, 1961, 1970, 1971, 1995 and 1996, from all over the world had sent their video recording reminiscing their school days and contribution of the school in their lives. The chapel service ended with the whole school singing the school song with their head held high with great joy and pride. In the coming two days , the school will be staging a host of activities including the school concert and Trooping of school color parade on 4th October
