Farmers can now get crop insurance done till January 15 : Dr. Negi
The Government of India has extended the date of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana 2025-26 till January 15, so that the farmers who have not yet insured their wheat and barley crops now have a golden opportunity to get the insurance done.
Giving this information, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Shimla, Dr. Ajab Negi said that under this scheme, the farmer will have to pay a premium of Rs 900 per hectare or Rs 72 per bigha for wheat crop and Rs 750 per hectare or Rs 60 per bigha for barley crop.
Dr. Negi stated that under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, the total insured amount for wheat crops has been set at ₹60,000 per hectare and for barley crops at ₹50,000 per hectare. He added that farmers can insure their crops through banks, Lok Mitra Kendras, or online, for which they must submit their Aadhaar card, land documents, and crop certificate.
He informed that the Agricultural Insurance Company (AIC) has been entrusted with the task of crop insurance in Shimla district. He added that farmers who have taken out loans from banks will automatically have their crops insured. If indebted farmers do not wish to insure their crops, they will need to submit a declaration to the bank stating their refusal.
