Everyone will have to make joint efforts to save the young generation from drugs: HGVS

HGVS- Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti organized an interactive session with Experts & Activists with IGMC & Different departments & institutions

Under the chairmanship of Dr. Dinesh Dutt Sharma, Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Indira Gandhi Medical College, and the joint auspices of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti and Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, brainstormed with experts on the problem of increasing drug addiction in the society, especially among the youth.

Dr. Gopal Chauhan, State Program Officer, NCD, Health Department, gave a presentation on the increasing trend of drug addiction in the state, in which he emphasized coordinated efforts to stop it. Dr. Chauhan suggested underlining the major role of voluntary organizations in solving this problem. He appreciated the role of Gyan Vigyan Samiti in various campaigns.

In the meeting, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry of IGMC and Associate Professor, in charge of Public Health, Head of the Department of Psychology from Himachal Pradesh University, Dr. Ravi Bhushan, former Head of the Department of St. Bede’s College, retired professor of BCS School, retired college principal Dr. Reena Singh. , College Professor Dr. R.C. Verma, retired DFO and social scientist B.S. Katek, senior journalists Kanwar Yogendra, Secretary of Nojwan Sabha and famous folk singers Kapil Sharma and Ankit Dubey, retired C.D.P.O. Vidya Chauhan, Seema Chauhan from Janwadi Mahila Samiti, District Secretary Naveen Sharma, Advocate Bhoomit Thakur participated in the discussion and gave useful suggestions.

All the members discussed this very seriously and gave suggestions to prepare a constructive strategy to reduce the supply and demand. Satyawan Pundir, Secretary of the Committee and State Convener of the Public Health Campaign said that in the coming time, the Gyan Vigyan Samiti will work on parenting for parents and guardians, under different strategies for students, teachers, peer groups, and society. There will be a comprehensive mobilization involving different parts of the industry which will act as pressure on the supply chain and users. The committee will run a comprehensive campaign drawing on its previous experiences of – Beti Bachao and Kheti Abhiyan.

State Secretary Satyavan Pundir said that the seriousness of this issue is reflected in the fact that within the last 20 days, meetings of 9 districts were successfully organized to activate the organizational structure of Gyan Vigyan Samiti, in which it was agreed to work on the drug issue on priority.
