A huge rock fell on the gate of Ashwani Khad Pump House, a major accident was averted.

A major disaster was averted when a large rock fell from a hill onto the Water Power Department’s pump house located at Ashwani Khad near Junga. There were no casualties, although the main gate of the pump house was damaged.
According to pump house employees, late Monday night, a large boulder tumbled down the hill at high speed and struck the pump house gate. The impact was so powerful that it damaged the gate. Employees say that if the boulder had changed its direction even slightly, it could have caused significant damage to the vital machinery installed in the pump house, potentially disrupting the water supply to Shimla city.
They say that employees are constantly moving around the pump house at night. If any employee had been hit by this rock, a serious accident could have occurred. Fortunately, the massive rock stopped near the gate, preventing any major damage.
It is worth noting that the Ashwani Khad Water Supply Scheme is one of the oldest and most important projects providing drinking water to Shimla city. Following the incident, employees have demanded strengthening of safety measures in the hilly area and inspection of potential hazardous areas.
