96-year-old Gauri, 94-year-old Shaunkiya Ram, 92-year-old Bish Ram, 93-year-old Santram cast their votes
Elections continued in the second phase of the three-tier Panchayat Raj elections on Thursday in 11 panchayats of the Mashobra block: Dhali, Kohlu Jubbar, Kufri, Padhechi, Janedghat, Dhali, Malyana, Pujarli, Manju Dabri, Shilon Bagh, and Pagog. Crowds of voters were seen at polling stations since morning to cast their votes.
According to the Election Officer, Panchayat Mashobra, in Dhali Panchayat, 94-year-old Shaunkiya Ram and 80-year-old Narayan Singh Thakur, despite being unwell, walked two kilometers to the polling booth to cast their votes. Seeing the enthusiasm and zeal towards voting, Shaunkiya Ram gave the message of the importance of voting in democracy to the youth. Similarly, in Gram Panchayat Kufri Shawah, 93-year-old Santram, 90-year-old Kamala Devi and 87-year-old Gauri Datt cast their votes despite being unwell. Seeing their enthusiasm, the youth were also inspired to vote. At Thund polling station, 96-year-old Gauri Devi and 92-year-old Bish Ram upheld the tradition of democracy by casting their votes.
