34 Veterinary Officers Trained in Advanced Animal Diagnostic Techniques at Palampur Agriversity
In a major step towards strengthening animal healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur, recently concluded a series of specialized training programmes for Veterinary Officers on advanced point-of-care diagnostic technologies.
Organized by the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Dr. G. C. Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (DGCN COVAS), the four-day training programme, titled “Point-of-Care Veterinary Diagnostics: Implementing Advanced Diagnostic Tools in Veterinary Clinical Settings,” focused on equipping field veterinarians with the latest diagnostic skills to improve clinical decision-making and disease management.
The training was conducted in three batches between March and August 2026, with 34 Veterinary Officers from all twelve districts of Himachal Pradesh participating. The programme aimed to enhance the ability of veterinarians to diagnose animal diseases quickly and accurately using modern diagnostic tools in field and clinical settings.
The valedictory session of the final batch was presided over by Dr. Pankaj Sood, Dean of DGCN COVAS, who emphasized the growing importance of rapid and accurate diagnosis in veterinary practice. He said that advanced point-of-care technologies are becoming increasingly important for improving animal healthcare, early disease detection, and strengthening disease surveillance systems. He also appreciated the department for organizing a training programme that directly addresses the evolving needs of veterinarians.
Dr. Sandeep Mishra, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Shimla, attended as the Special Guest. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and practical skills gained during the training to enhance veterinary services and animal welfare across the state.
Under the guidance of Dr. Adarsh, Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, the programme featured expert lectures, practical demonstrations, hands-on training sessions, and interactive discussions on a wide range of advanced diagnostic tools and their real-world applications. Highlighting the importance of continuous learning, Dr. Adarsh stressed that veterinary professionals must stay updated with emerging technologies to meet the changing demands of animal healthcare.
Participants praised the programme for its practical approach and interactive learning environment, noting that the hands-on exposure significantly improved their understanding of modern diagnostic techniques. The department also expressed gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department for supporting and sponsoring the entire training series.
Reaffirming its commitment to capacity building, the Department of Veterinary Medicine announced its intention to continue organizing similar programmes in the future. Earlier this year, the department had also trained 20 Veterinary Pharmacists through two specialized programmes focused on modern veterinary practices, further contributing to the strengthening of animal healthcare services in the state.
