Himachal’s Carp Fish Pond Scheme: A Golden Opportunity for Self-Employment
The Himachal Pradesh government is offering unemployed youth a promising opportunity for self-employment through various fisheries initiatives, including the Chief Minister Carp Fish Pond Construction Scheme. Neetu Singh, Assistant Director of Fisheries for the Mandi Division, highlighted that carp fish farming can provide a sustainable livelihood for those associated with the water sector.
Key Features of the Scheme
Under this scheme, beneficiaries across all categories are eligible for an 80% grant for the construction of carp fish ponds. The scheme supports the construction of raw ponds in areas ranging from 500 square meters to one hectare, with a depth of 1.5 meters. The total cost for pond construction is estimated at ₹8.4 lakh per hectare, with a significant portion subsidized.
Additionally, the scheme offers grants on fish seeds, fish feed, and other resources needed for the first year of fish farming. These grants are also provided at 80% of the estimated cost, amounting to ₹4 lakh per hectare. Importantly, ponds can be constructed on both private and leased land, giving beneficiaries greater flexibility.
