Wing Commander Ankit Sood Honored with Vayu Sena Medal for Heroic Flood Rescue Missions
Wing Commander Ankit Sood, a distinguished pilot from the Mi-17-1V Helicopter Unit of the Indian Air Force, has been awarded the prestigious Vayu Sena Medal for Gallantry. The honor, conferred by President Droupadi Murmu, recognizes his remarkable bravery and exemplary service during the devastating floods that hit Himachal Pradesh in 2023.
Heroic Leadership Amidst Devastation
During the catastrophic floods that ravaged the Kullu and Mandi districts, Wing Commander Sood led critical rescue operations under extreme weather conditions. His swift decision-making and fearless execution of rescue missions saved countless lives, showcasing extraordinary courage and dedication.
Recognizing the Bravery of India’s Armed Forces
On the eve of the 76th Republic Day, President Murmu approved gallantry awards for 93 Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel, including 11 posthumous recognitions. These included two Kirti Chakras, 14 Shaurya Chakras, and eight Vayu Sena Medals for Gallantry, highlighting the unwavering bravery of India’s defenders.
In addition, the President sanctioned 305 defense decorations, including 30 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 57 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, and 15 Vayu Sena Medals for Devotion to Duty, among others, honoring the dedication of Armed Forces personnel across the nation.
