
AI Meets Biotechnology: Shoolini University Launches Advanced BioAI Lab to Power Future Research
In a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge technology with life sciences, Shoolini University has unveiled its new BioAI and Advanced Bioinformatics Laboratory, a facility designed to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence for biotechnology and biomedical research.
Addressing the launch, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla emphasised that Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping the research landscape across the world. He said the new laboratory would help bridge the gap between biology and computational intelligence while preparing students and researchers for the demands of a technology-driven future.
“AI is changing the way research is conducted across disciplines. With the BioAI laboratory, we aim to strengthen the use of computational intelligence in biotechnology and biomedical research and equip our students and researchers with future-ready skills,” Prof. Khosla said.
Highlighting the growing role of data and technology in modern science, Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, noted that biotechnology is increasingly becoming a data-driven field. He said proficiency in AI and computational tools will be essential for the next generation of biotechnology professionals and researchers.
The new facility is expected to significantly enhance the university’s research ecosystem. Prof. Pankaj Kumar Chauhan said the laboratory would complement the institution’s academic programmes by providing students with opportunities to work at the intersection of biological sciences and advanced computing. The School of Bio-engineering and Food Technology already offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes in Bioinformatics, along with PhD and biotechnology courses, creating a strong foundation for interdisciplinary learning.
According to Prof. Lokender Kumar, Coordinator of the BioAI and Advanced Bioinformatics Lab, the future of biotechnology lies in combining biological knowledge with computational intelligence. He said researchers will increasingly rely on AI-powered tools to solve complex biological and biomedical problems.
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, including NVIDIA Blackwell GPU systems and advanced iMac workstations. These high-performance systems will support demanding research activities such as machine learning, AI model development, programming, and large-scale computational analysis.
Researchers will be able to use the facility for a wide range of applications, including genomics, cancer biology, molecular modelling, biomolecular simulations, drug discovery, and AI-assisted biological prediction. The advanced infrastructure is expected to accelerate the analysis of vast biological datasets and open new avenues for innovation.
A key strength of the initiative is its focus on collaboration. By bringing together biologists, biotechnologists, bioinformaticians, computational scientists, and AI experts, the laboratory aims to foster interdisciplinary research and encourage innovative solutions to some of the most challenging questions in healthcare and life sciences.
