Big Relief for Home Guards: HP Police Constable Recruitment Deadline Extended, Age Limit Relaxed

In a welcome move for Home Guard personnel across Himachal Pradesh, the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has announced a one-time relaxation of five years in the upper age limit for Home Guards applying for the ongoing Police Constable recruitment. The decision has opened a fresh window of opportunity for many candidates who had previously become ineligible due to age restrictions.

Adding to the relief, HPPSC has also extended the application deadline by 15 days, allowing aspiring candidates more time to complete the application process. As per the revised schedule, applications can now be submitted online until September 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

The age relaxation comes following a recommendation from the Himachal Pradesh Government’s Home Department, communicated to the Commission on August 20. The special provision will apply to Home Guard candidates seeking recruitment under the Police Constable advertisements issued by HPPSC earlier this year.

For many Home Guard personnel who have spent years serving alongside law enforcement agencies, the decision is being seen as a fair chance to pursue a regular position in the police force. Several candidates who had crossed the prescribed age limit and were unable to apply earlier can now participate in the recruitment process.

The recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 734 constable posts in the Himachal Pradesh Police. Out of these, 491 positions are earmarked for male candidates, while 243 posts are reserved for female candidates.

With the deadline extension, applicants now have additional time to gather documents, complete formalities, and submit their forms without last-minute pressure. HPPSC has clarified that candidates who have already successfully applied do not need to submit a fresh application.

The Commission has also stated that apart from the revised age criteria and extended deadline, all other recruitment conditions will remain unchanged and will continue to be governed by the original notification.

For hundreds of Home Guard personnel hoping to wear the police uniform, the latest announcement could prove to be a significant opportunity to turn years of service and experience into a permanent career in law enforcement.
