Jairam attacked CM Sukhu alleging political vendetta and misuse of administration

 Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, saying that instead of taking Himachal Pradesh on the path of development, the government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has, in the last nearly four years, turned it into a hub of vindictiveness, political vendetta and administrative abuse. He said that Devbhoomi Himachal Pradesh was known for its peace-loving culture, democratic traditions and social harmony, but the present government has attempted to link the state’s identity with the politics of vengeance.

He said that after forming the government, the Congress party first launched a campaign to shut down development projects and public welfare institutions. This was followed by the targeting of political opponents, and today, anyone who questions the Chief Minister’s working style or is seen standing with the BJP is being targeted in some way or the other.

Jairam Thakur said that the public gave a clear mandate against the Congress government in the Panchayat, Municipal, and Zilla Parishad elections. The BJP’s victory in several local bodies, including the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, Solan Municipal Corporation, Hamirpur, and Kangra Zilla Parishads, completely rattled the Congress. Instead of accepting this public mandate, the government chose to harass the victorious public representatives.

He alleged that FIRs have been filed or investigative agencies have exerted pressure against numerous BJP leaders, including state BJP president Dr. Rajeev Bindal, MLA Sudhir Sharma, MLA Hoshiar Singh, MLA Ashish Sharma, and former minister Sukhram Chaudhary. Furthermore, leaders who have joined the BJP, their families, and associates are also being harassed. He said that officials are being instructed to fabricate cases against BJP leaders by any means necessary.

The Leader of the Opposition said that BJP district council members, panchayat heads, municipal body representatives, and councilors are also being mentally harassed by issuing various notices after winning elections. It is extremely unfortunate that in a democracy, instead of respecting the public-elected representatives, they are being harassed.

Jairam Thakur alleged that the priorities of governance in the state have completely changed. The government shows no signs of activism in serious cases like murders, shootings, crimes against women, and law and order, but instead deploys the entire administrative machinery to fabricate cases against political opponents. He said that for the first time in Himachal Pradesh, an environment has been created where political pressure on the police and administration is being openly discussed.

He said that the recent police department’s Harmony of Pines Orchestra controversy, despite the serious allegations leveled by female police officers, also raises questions about the government’s functioning. If even female police officers are struggling for justice, the plight of ordinary citizens is easily imagined.

Jairam Thakur also raised serious questions about phone tapping and surveillance in the state. He said that if the activities of public representatives, MLAs, or opposition leaders are being illegally monitored, it is a serious attack on the democratic system. He demanded that if such allegations have surfaced, they should be investigated impartially so that the truth can be revealed to the people of the state.

Referring to the internal situation within the Congress party, he said that there is growing dissatisfaction within the party itself regarding the Chief Minister’s working style. He claimed that even the party’s top leadership has received serious reports about the state government’s functioning. Instead of making predictions, the Chief Minister should focus on the public’s problems and the state’s development.

The Leader of the Opposition also targeted the Chief Minister’s media advisor, saying that before making baseless accusations against the BJP, he should answer the questions surrounding his tenure and his own. He said that instead of responding to allegations of corruption, the government is busy attacking the opposition.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is compiling documents from across the state detailing the Congress government’s corruption, financial mismanagement, abuse of power, administrative interference, anti-people decisions, and political vendetta. These facts will be presented to the public in the form of a detailed charge sheet. The BJP will launch a public awareness campaign at the village, division, and assembly levels to expose the Congress government’s failures.

He also urged officials not to succumb to political pressure and make decisions that would question their impartiality. The administration’s responsibility is to enforce the rule of law, not to protect the interests of any political party.

Finally, Jairam Thakur said that in a democracy, public trust cannot be won by suppressing the voice of the opposition, filing false cases, and misusing the administration. The Congress government should abandon the politics of vengeance and work in the public interest during the remainder of its term. If this does not happen, the people of Himachal Pradesh will democratically oust the Congress government from power in the 2027 assembly elections and give a clear mandate to the BJP.

Shimla: Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, alleging that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led administration has, over the past four years, replaced governance with a culture of political vendetta, abuse of power and administrative intimidation. He said Himachal Pradesh, known as Dev Bhoomi for its peaceful traditions and democratic values, is now witnessing an unprecedented misuse of state machinery to target political opponents.

Jairam Thakur said that instead of focusing on development, employment and public welfare, the Congress government has concentrated on shutting down public institutions, halting development works and intimidating those who question its functioning. As public resentment against the government has grown and the BJP has received overwhelming support in Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections, the government has intensified its campaign of targeting BJP leaders and elected representatives through criminal cases and administrative action.

He alleged that senior BJP leaders, including State BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, MLAs Sudhir Sharma, Hoshiar Singh, Ashish Sharma, former minister Sukhram Chaudhary and several other BJP functionaries have been subjected to FIRs, investigations or administrative harassment. According to him, even leaders who left the Congress and joined the BJP, along with their family members and associates, are being targeted as part of a politically motivated campaign.

The Leader of Opposition further alleged that BJP Zila Parishad members, Panchayat Pradhans, Municipal Councilors and other elected representatives who secured victories in recent local body elections are also being served notices and subjected to unnecessary inquiries merely because they defeated Congress candidates.

Jairam Thakur said the government’s priorities have become completely distorted. While incidents relating to law and order, violent crime and crimes against women demand urgent attention, the state machinery is allegedly being used to prepare cases against political opponents instead of addressing the concerns of ordinary citizens.

Referring to the recent controversy involving the Harmony of Pines orchestra of the Himachal Pradesh Police, he said that serious allegations raised by women police personnel deserve a fair and impartial investigation. He questioned why prompt action had not been taken despite complaints, stating that such incidents raise serious concerns about the government’s commitment to protecting women employees.

He also expressed concern over allegations of phone tapping and surveillance, stating that if elected representatives or opposition leaders are being unlawfully monitored, it would amount to a grave assault on democratic freedoms. He demanded that any such allegations be independently investigated.

Jairam Thakur further claimed that there is widespread dissatisfaction within the Congress over the functioning of the present government. He said the Chief Minister should focus on governance and addressing people’s issues instead of indulging in political rhetoric and targeting opponents.

He also criticized the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor, saying that before leveling allegations against the BJP, those in the government should answer questions relating to the functioning of the Chief Minister’s Office and allegations of corruption instead of diverting attention through political attacks.

The Leader of Opposition announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party is compiling a comprehensive chargesheet documenting alleged corruption, financial mismanagement, abuse of administrative machinery, anti-people decisions and misuse of power by the Congress government. The document, supported by evidence, will be placed before the people of Himachal Pradesh through a statewide public campaign.

He urged government officials to discharge their duties impartially and not succumb to political pressure, reminding them that the administration is accountable to the Constitution and the rule of law, not to any political party.

Concluding, Jairam Thakur said that democracy cannot be sustained by intimidating the Opposition, registering politically motivated cases or misusing state institutions. He asserted that the BJP would continue to raise these issues through democratic means and expressed confidence that the people of Himachal Pradesh would give a decisive verdict against the Congress government in the 2027 Assembly elections.
