Monsoon Alert: Himachal Activates 24×7 Disaster Helplines for Residents and Tourists
As monsoon rains continue to intensify across Himachal Pradesh, authorities are stepping up preparedness measures to keep residents and visitors safe. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) has issued an extensive safety advisory and activated round-the-clock disaster response services to ensure quick assistance during emergencies.
To provide immediate support during the rainy season, the State Disaster Helpline (1070) and District Disaster Helplines (1077) will remain operational 24 hours a day throughout the monsoon. People can call these numbers to report landslides, flash floods, road blockages, natural disasters, or any other emergency situation requiring urgent assistance.
The Authority has urged both tourists and local residents to stay informed before travelling. People are advised to regularly check weather forecasts and official disaster-related updates, especially when planning journeys to remote or hill regions. Travellers have also been encouraged to download offline maps on their mobile phones, as network connectivity can often be disrupted during heavy rainfall.
Emphasizing the importance of staying calm during emergencies, HPSDMA has appealed to citizens not to panic and instead seek immediate assistance through the designated helplines. Residents have been asked to follow instructions issued by local administrations and disaster management teams and stay updated on rescue operations, relief efforts, and emergency services.
For those travelling during the monsoon, authorities recommend checking road conditions before setting out. Motorists have been advised to carry essential supplies, including a first-aid kit, adequate drinking water, and an emergency vehicle kit to handle unexpected situations on the road.
The advisory also encourages people to identify disaster-prone areas around their homes and communities and remain vigilant against potential threats such as landslides, cloudbursts, heavy rainfall, earthquakes, fires, and industrial accidents.
According to HPSDMA, awareness and preparedness remain the strongest defenses against natural disasters. With weather conditions becoming increasingly unpredictable during the monsoon, the Authority has assured that emergency support systems will remain active across the state, helping ensure timely assistance whenever and wherever it is needed.
As Himachal enters the peak monsoon period, officials are urging everyone to stay alert, travel responsibly, and make safety their top priority.
