BJP’s wins 11 out of 12 district councils : Harsh Mahajan

The Bharatiya Janata Party-backed candidates won resounding victories in the Shimla Zila Parishad President and Vice President elections, securing the BJP’s victory in both top Zila Parishad positions after a 26-year hiatus. Bhupendra Singh Sisodia, elected from the Chandlog-Neruwa ward, was elected President, and Bharat Singh Kalanta, elected from the Tikkar ward, was elected Vice President.

In the election for the post of Speaker, BJP-backed Bhupendra Singh Sisodia received 13 votes, while Congress-backed Surendra Retka received 10 votes, with two votes rejected. In the election for the post of Vice President, BJP-backed Bharat Singh Kalanta received 14 votes, while Congress-backed Meenakshi received 10 votes, with one vote rejected.

BJP has described this victory not only as the election of the District Council President and Vice President, but also as a clear indication of the changing political environment in Himachal Pradesh and the growing public anger against the Congress government.

As soon as the election results were announced, tremendous enthusiasm was seen among BJP workers in Shimla. Amid drumbeats and slogans, workers welcomed the newly elected president and vice president and congratulated each other on this historic victory.

Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan, while congratulating the newly elected President Bhupendra Singh Sisodia and Vice President Bharat Singh Kalanta and all the party workers on the spectacular victory of BJP, said that the results of the Zila Parishads in Himachal Pradesh are giving a clear indication of the political direction of the state.

He said, “The BJP’s dominance in 11 of the state’s 12 district councils is a significant political message in itself. What more indication is needed of who the people of Himachal Pradesh stand with?”

Mahajan said that the Congress government has created an environment in the state where FIRs are filed against political opponents and allegations of misuse of the police and administration are constantly being made. Employees are upset, youth are frustrated about employment, women are worried, and dissatisfaction with the government is growing even in rural areas.

He said that no matter how much the government tries to divert the attention of the public from the real issues, now the people of the state have made up their mind.

Harsh Mahajan said that the Shimla Zila Parishad victory is significant because many influential ministers and key figures in the Congress government come from this district. Despite this, Congress failed to retain the positions of Zila Parishad president and vice president.

He said, “When the government is not able to save the Zila Parishad even in the home districts of its ministers, then it can be estimated how much anger the people of the state have against the government.”

Mahajan said that Congress had been delaying these elections for a long time. Ultimately, the matter reached the court, and elections had to be held. He alleged that unnecessarily halting the democratic process was an injustice to the rights of the people and elected representatives.

He said that now that the elections are over, political competition should end and all the members of the Zilla Parishad should work together to solve the problems of the people and for the development of the district.

Mahajan said, “Vote politics prevails until the elections, but now our effort will be to ensure that all members work together. Our priority will be to move forward to solve people’s problems by taking everyone’s opinion, everyone’s support, and everyone’s respect.”

Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikandar Kumar, describing the BJP’s victory in Shimla Zila Parishad as the victory of the people and democracy, said that after a long wait, the elections were finally held and the results came in favour of the BJP.

He said that after waiting for 102 days, District Council Shimla got its Chairman and Vice Chairman and BJP supported candidates were victorious on both the posts.

Dr. Sikandar Kumar said that the attitude adopted by the Chief Minister regarding the role of the District Council, today the results of the same District Council have made it clear that local democratic institutions cannot be underestimated.

He said, “Today, after 102 days, the District Council has demonstrated the role of elected representatives and local institutions in a democracy. Congress is losing political ground in Shimla district as well, and the atmosphere is building in favor of the BJP from top to bottom.”

Dr. Sikandar Kumar claimed that the BJP received full support from its supporting members, and that even the Congress camp voted in favor of the BJP candidate. He attributed this to growing frustration within the Congress and a growing support for the BJP.

Congress’s fort broken after 26 years

The BJP said that the election of BJP-supported candidates to both top positions in the Shimla District Council after 26 years is politically significant. The BJP’s victory in the District Council, long dominated by the Congress, signals a major shift in the district’s political dynamics.

The party said that Bhupendra Singh Sisodia getting 13 votes for the post of president and Bharat Singh Kalanta getting 14 votes for the post of vice president shows that the BJP was successful in gaining confidence beyond its stipulated support.

BJP leaders said that the results of the Zila Parishad elections in the state are consistently giving the same political message – the people are not satisfied with the policies and functioning of the present Congress government and their faith in the BJP is continuously strengthening.

The BJP said the Shimla Zila Parishad victory is an important political signal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The party claims the support it receives in local bodies and Zila Parishads demonstrates that change has begun at the grassroots level in the state.

BJP leaders said, “This is not just a victory for the posts of president and vice president. This is a picture of a changing Himachal and a clear indication of the political change that will take place in 2027.”

The party said that whether the Congress government uses administrative power or political pressure, the public’s mind cannot be changed. The results of the district council elections have made it clear that the BJP’s support base in the state is steadily strengthening.
