Every 10th person in India is addicted to tobacco : Dr Manoj
On the occasion of International No Tobacco Day, students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Junga, took out a rally in the market to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco on health.
Presiding over the programme, Dr Manoj Verma, Medical Incharge of Civil Hospital, while addressing the children and teachers, said that tobacco consumption is a slow poison which makes a person hollow from within. He said that tobacco is consumed the most in India. According to research, every 10th person in India consumes tobacco in some form or the other. Tobacco consumption causes diseases like cancer, respiratory disease, heart disease. He said that people who do not consume tobacco, if they live with someone who smokes bidi or cigarette, they too become passive smokers.
Dr. Manoj Verma stated that the government is placing special emphasis on making all educational institutions tobacco-free, as young people begin their addiction with tobacco and later switch to chitta. On this occasion, he informed the children about meditation and yoga. He stated that yoga not only improves physical health but also fosters positive thinking. Dr. Manoj then observed a poster exhibition on tobacco prohibition put up by the children.
School Principal Mahesh Sharma thanked the medical officer for providing practical information to the children about the ill effects of tobacco use. He advised the children to stay away from all forms of addiction.
