BJP Unveils Vision for Palampur’s Growth Ahead of Municipal Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its Vision Document and Sankalp Patra for the upcoming Palampur Municipal Corporation elections, outlining an ambitious roadmap focused on infrastructure development, tourism promotion, improved civic amenities and social welfare for residents of the hill town.

Addressing the media, senior BJP leaders Rajeev Bhardwaj and Vipin Singh Parmar said the document goes beyond being a routine election manifesto. They described it as a long-term development blueprint aimed at shaping Palampur into a modern, well-managed and culturally vibrant city.

Highlighting respect for national heroes, Vipin Parmar announced that major entry gates of the Municipal Corporation would be named after martyrs. He also proposed the construction of a grand Martyrs’ Memorial to honour brave soldiers such as Saurabh Kalia, Somnath Sharma, Vikram Batra and Sudhir Walia, as well as other soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1962, 1965, 1971 and Kargil wars. The memorial, he said, would serve as a tribute and a source of inspiration for future generations.

Speaking about tourism, Parmar said Palampur has immense untapped potential. The BJP plans to place the town firmly on the tourism and religious circuit by linking key destinations such as Himani Chamunda, Chamundeshwari Temple, Kali Mata Temple, Vidyavasini Temple, Sobha Singh Art Gallery, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, and CSIR institutions. This, he said, would boost the local economy and create new employment opportunities.

Addressing growing traffic congestion, BJP leaders said the party would work with the Central Government to construct underpasses, overhead bridges and modern traffic management systems. Efforts would also be made to streamline and conceal overhead electric and communication cables, giving the town a cleaner and more organized appearance.

Reiterating the party’s commitment to cow welfare, Parmar announced plans to set up model Gausadans for stray cattle. On housing, he assured that landless and homeless families would be provided four to five marlas of land and houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He added that land has already been identified and Central funds for nearly 400 houses have been sanctioned.

According to the Vision Document, parks for senior citizens, women and children will be developed in every ward. The BJP also addressed environmental concerns, stating that the garbage dumping site would be shifted to a more suitable location. The current site would be converted into a tourism project to prevent pollution of the Neugal river and improve the city’s environmental health.

On the issue of areas recently merged into the Municipal Corporation, Parmar said the BJP respects the sentiments of residents from Maranda, Chowki, Kaliyagarh and surrounding areas. He assured that if people wish to opt out of the Municipal Corporation, their views would be honoured and appropriate administrative solutions explored.

Promising governance reforms, Parmar said a Single Window System would be introduced to ensure timely delivery of civic services, including birth and death certificates, building map approvals and other clearances. The BJP also pledged to provide 150 days of employment under the Urban Livelihood Mission and simplify procedures for building approvals and multi-storey construction, on the lines of the Shimla Municipal Corporation Act.

With this Vision Document, BJP leaders said the party aims to present Palampur as a well-planned, inclusive and future-ready city, balancing development with heritage, environment and citizen-centric governance.
