Summer Heat Turns the Spotlight on Himachal’s Hills, Tourism Sees a Welcome Uptick

As temperatures continue to climb across the plains, many travellers are escaping the heat by heading to the cooler hill stations of Himachal Pradesh—and destinations like Kullu-Manali and Banjar are reaping the benefits. The steady rise in tourist arrivals is breathing fresh life into the region’s tourism sector and lifting the mood among local businesses.

President of the Himachal Pradesh Travel Agents Association, said there has been a clear increase in online booking inquiries for May. Weekends, in particular, are already seeing a noticeable rush of visitors.

“This upward trend is encouraging and shows that tourism in the region is slowly getting back on track,” said a travel agent, expressing optimism about the coming weeks.

Hoteliers in Manali are also feeling more hopeful. Local hoteliers noted that recent geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel had briefly dampened tourist movement, but the situation now appears to be stabilising.

“Over the last few days, tourist numbers have been rising steadily. As the heat intensifies in the plains, even more people are likely to turn towards hill destinations,” he said.

Pleasant weather and snow-laden landscapes are proving to be major attractions. High-altitude spots such as Rohtang Pass, Koksar, Sissu and Shinkula Top are still blanketed in snow, giving visitors a rare chance to enjoy winter-like scenery even as summer sets in elsewhere.

Tourism stakeholders across the region say they are fully prepared for the anticipated influx. Hotels, transport operators and allied services have put arrangements in place to ensure smooth accommodation, travel and safety for visitors.

With favourable weather conditions and growing demand, Kullu-Manali appears set for a strong tourist season ahead—offering not just memorable experiences for travellers, but also a much-needed economic boost for local communities that depend heavily on tourism.
