Fresh Western Disturbance to Bring More Rain and Snow Across Himachal Till May 5

Himachal Pradesh is set to witness continued unsettled weather, with snowfall in higher reaches and rain in the lower and mid-hill regions expected to persist till May 5. The change in weather is being driven by a fresh western disturbance, which is likely to impact the western Himalayan region from May 2, according to the State Meteorological Department.

Meteorologists have forecast widespread rain and snowfall over the next few days, with intense showers predicted on May 3, for which a yellow warning has been issued. Residents, especially those in vulnerable and high-altitude areas, have been advised to remain cautious during this period.

The spell of poor weather is also expected to bring down temperatures across the state. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C, adding a noticeable chill, particularly in higher elevations.

Over the past 24 hours, light rainfall was recorded in several parts of the state, including Shimla, Mandi, Solan, Una, and Manali. The impact of the weather system was clearly reflected in temperature readings, with minimum temperatures dropping by 2°C to 3°C, while day temperatures dipped sharply by 4°C to 10°C in some areas.

On Wednesday, Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6°C, Dharamshala 26°C, Manali 17°C, Kangra 29.8°C, Mandi 26.8°C, and Solan 25°C. Other notable readings included Tabo at 17.5°C, Sundernagar 27°C, Nahan 30.4°C, Bhuntar 20.4°C, and Kalpa 19.1°C.

In contrast, Una emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 35.8°C, while Kukumseri village in Lahaul and Spiti district remained the coldest, with the mercury dipping to 5.6°C.

With fluctuating temperatures and continued wet weather, authorities have urged people, especially farmers, travelers, and residents of high-altitude areas, to stay alert and follow weather advisories in the coming days.
