Team of Tribal Development Department got to know the tribal culture of the North Eastern States

A team of Tribal Development Department led by Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma, during an exchange visit held from April 25 to 29, 2026, gathered information about the functioning of the Tribal Research Institute and Tribal Department in the North Eastern States of Assam and Meghalaya.
The team participated in a meeting with Principal Secretary (Independent Charge Tribal Affairs) for Arts and Culture, Frederick Kharkongor, and other officials in Shillong on April 27, 2026. In addition, a meeting was held in Dispur with Sweety Changsan, Additional Chief Secretary for Tribal Affairs, Assam, and other officials to exchange views.
Onkar Chand Sharma said that during this visit, he learned about successful models of tribal research policymaking and community-driven development initiatives and plans in the Northeastern states. He said that through research-based policies, social and economic development can be achieved, along with the promotion of rich tribal culture.
